I’ve come across !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! where you can rent someone else’s personal car. Has any oppos ever used it? I would assume it would be best to just self-insure for 1 day rather than pay for their insurance where YOUR insurance is the primary and their’s is secondary. Oppoinions?
EDIT: Just to clarify, I would be renting a car for a day, not renting mine out.

Ew, this is akin to “swinger life” in my mind. i don’t even like the detail/Ford mechanic/Land Rover mechanic driving my car.

lol. I had no idea this existed. But like you said, it would be too shady. What if they leave drugs or something bad hidden in your car?

Haha, edited my post for clarification. I would be renting someone ELSE’s car. I would never rent mine out to make $40 one day...

After only having ever bought used cars I will never allow a search of my vehicle without a search warrant.

I actually used relay rides two weeks ago to truck my bike up to the track. It was AWESOME! The truck I rented was clean, well maintained, and I spend $70 to rent + $30 in gas, drove 430 miles, and it even had A/C. It was perfect, and MUCH cheaper than anything else i looked at.
That being said, if you have a costco membership, they have CHEAP rental cars. ( more info about rental cars )

Definitely get your own insurance for it. A local FR-S driver I know through 86ONE rented his out. It got totaled, and the owner’s insurance refused the claim because his policy didn’t cover renting the car out. He’s going after the renter who actually crashed the car now. The owner of whatever you rent may make the same mistake, so CYA.

Is he not covered by Relay Rides’ insurance?

Seems like he ought to be, but he’s having issues. I’m not sure on specifics, only what he’s posted to the group.

I have an account. I just wanted to see what I could rent the Evo out for since it was just sitting most of the time. But I never finished it all up ... not worth it to me.
In terms of renting, I’d be terrified of the liability of driving someone’s car for a few days.

I looked into providing a car for rent. Plan was to get a cheap, halfway-decent midsize sedan (read: mid-2000s Honda Accord, most likely), fix whatever’s broken, and rent it out thru RelayRides. That, or a cargo van.
Honestly, the best way to make money at it is to already have a car that’s not being used. Buying a car for the purpose of renting it out really won’t become profitable until your 3rd or 4th year.

Most insurance policies have a “limited and occasional use” clause that covers you when you rent or hire a car for a small period of time so when their insurance doesn’t cover because they’re renting their car out, yours will cover you.

Just rented a 335i convertible for 5 days and I made sure to get the insurance. The guy was totally upfront about everything, and I put 700 miles on the car. Service worked great. So much cheaper than renting from an actual rental place. Had a great time, although the car wasn’t very fast.

Agreed, I would call your insurance agent & make sure, SURE you’d be covered if anything would happen. Seems interesting, if my Metro were mechanically sound I'd rent it out. (2nd gear syncro going out, so one just has to know how to drive it)

You in Philly? I just saw the Porsche on there, didn’t even know this kind of service existed.

I'm across the river in Jersey. The 911 is down in Wilmington. Only $100 + insurance so for about $150 you can drive a manual 911 for 200 miles!
